My Fortress Accounting & Austax is part of a growing multi‑disciplinary financial services group providing accounting, taxation, financial planning and mortgage broking across North Queensland.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Practice Manager to coordinate accounting operations, governance, people processes and workflow control across our Accounting and Administration functions. This is a critical role and a trusted partner to our executive team.

About the Role
This is a senior, hands‑on position responsible for the day‑to‑day operational performance of the practice.
You will bring structure, visibility and discipline across:
People and capacity management
Workflow and systems governance
Billing, WIP and debtor control
Compliance and lodgment oversight
Operational reporting and decision support
You will lead the Administration function, reduce operational burden on accountants, and ensure workflows remain consistent, controlled and scalable.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of services
Lead and support administration teams, including workflow coordination, task allocation and escalation management
Maintain robust checklists, controls and reporting standards within Xero and internal systems
Maintain strong financial control and billing integrity across accounting services
Oversee lodgment workflows and exceptions (including rejected returns), ensuring AML/CTF and ethical request processes are followed
Oversee onboarding and ongoing maintenance of client data, including entity maintenance and changes across ASIC, CAS360, ABR or equivalent systems
Provide regular reporting across workflow, utilisation, WIP, debtors and lodgments
Lead tax season operational planning and workflow readiness, including capacity planning, rostering and resourcing, to maintain consistent delivery and client experience during peak demand
About You
You are an experienced practice, operations or office manager within an accounting or professional services environment. You will bring:
Proven experience managing operations within an accounting or taxation practice
Strong people management skills and experience leading teams of 10+ staff
A strong understanding of workflow management, job systems and compliance obligations
Confidence managing billing, WIP, debtors and operational performance
High attention to detail with the ability to see the broader operational picture
A calm, organised approach under pressure, particularly during EOFY
Experience with systems such as FYI, Xero, Fin365 or similar (highly regarded)
