Project Accountant – APAC Projects & Services

Cubic APAC region is seeking a motivated and commercially astute Project Accountant to join our APAC team. This role plays a critical part in supporting the financial performance of complex defence and technology programs across the region.

About the Role
Reporting under general supervision, this position is responsible for the financial management of delegated APAC Projects and Services contracts. You will work collaboratively across Commercial, Engineering, Project Management, Bids & Proposals, and Finance functions to ensure strong financial governance and performance.
You will continuously enhance the quality and depth of financial and non-financial information provided to senior management, enabling informed and strategic decision-making. This role requires sound judgement, strong initiative, and the confidence to exercise appropriate discretionary authority.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Financial Partnering
Act as a trusted finance business partner to Program Management and Services teams
Prepare and review project financials for approval
Meet with Project Managers prior to monthly reviews to confirm project status, contract values, and estimates to completion
Present financial information at weekly and monthly project review meetings
Financial Performance & Controls
Maintain project numbers, budgets, Estimates to Complete (ETCs), and related data within the ERP system
Prepare monthly project reports and detailed variance analysis
Monitor program risks and opportunities, maintaining the financial risk register
Escalate significant variances or issues that may impact project outcomes
Ensure alignment between financial reporting and project schedules in collaboration with Project Planners
Billing, Forecasting & Cash Flow
Prepare and manage billings in collaboration with Contracts and Project teams
Advise on billings, retentions, debtors, and cash flow for individual projects
Liaise with intercompany stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely forecast inputs
Assist in claims and variations preparation, including cost models and pricing schedules
Bids, Budgets & Compliance
Review and generate bid summaries for accuracy and compliance with company rates and mark-ups
Support FP&A in monthly, quarterly, and annual budget preparation
Assist with internal and external audits and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
Ensure adherence to Cubic’s Quality Management System, OHSE, HR, and security policies
Team & Development
Support and mentor junior team members
Contribute to process improvement initiatives across project finance
About You
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business
CA / CPA / CIMA qualified
Experience & Skills
Minimum 5 years’ experience in project or management accounting within a project or services-based environment
Strong understanding of project financial lifecycle management
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Ability to present financial information to Senior and Executive Management
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
Desirable:
Experience with SAP and Primavera
Experience in a technology or defence environment
Knowledge of Earned Value Reporting
