About the Role:

Townsville City Council are seeking a highly organised and professional individual to provide comprehensive support to Councillors, ensuring they can carry out their elected duties efficiently and effectively.

You will deliver and support Councillor community engagement initiatives, providing high-level professional assistance to both internal and external stakeholders. The position also involves responding to Councillor requests by facilitating service-related communication between Councillors and the organisation, as well as delivering high-level administrative support with a strong focus on confidentiality, discretion, and governance compliance.

You will coordinate all aspects of meetings and official commitments, including room bookings, agendas, speeches, catering, and resources, alongside organising travel arrangements such as flights, accommodation, car hire, and expense claims. In addition, you will prepare routine correspondence and maintain an exceptionally high standard of professionalism, ethics, and personal conduct at all times.

About You:

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Certificate IV in Business or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related/similar role preferably in customer services/community engagement.
  • Qualifications (membership and or certificate) or experience in public consultation (e.g. IAP2) and experience in social media activity.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting or assisting in stakeholder consultation including group facilitation.
  • Current “C” class drivers licence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including relationship building and negotiation.
  • Capacity to undertake basic graphic design, including familiarity with the Adobe suite.
  • Ability to plan and organise self and others to ensure the timely completion of tasks as part of a team, interacting with team members to deliver a high level of service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to deliver best practice outcomes for council and the community.
  • Sound level of analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Exceptional time management, planning, and organisational capabilities.

* The Council contribution to employees' superannuation for contributing employees shall be 13.5% of the employees' ordinary time earnings subject to the employee contributing a minimum of 6% of their ordinary time earnings.
