The Department of Education in the North Queensland region is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Guidance Officer to join the Wellbeing Workforce at Kirwan State High School.

This role is offered on a temporary part-time or full-time basis and will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

About Us

The focus of the role is to provide support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns in school.

Wellbeing professionals employed through the Student Wellbeing Package work as part of schools' established student support teams to enhance the wellbeing and mental health support available to students.

The Student Wellbeing Package is in place to ensure every Queensland primary and secondary state school student has access to a wellbeing professional at school.

Your opportunity

As the Wellbeing Guidance Officer you will

  • Provide professional support and information for students, parents, carers and school communities that facilitate partnerships in decision making for the enhancement of all students' learning.
  • Provide services such as counselling, assessment and intervention, focusing on students' mental health and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community.

Guidance Officers provide a unique source of expertise and experience requiring a background, including:

  • High level of teaching ability
  • Advanced individual and group counselling skills, and
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and personal abilities
