POSITION TITLE: Ophthalmic Nurse
JOB TYPE: Permanent Part-Time to Full-Time

Townsville Eye Care is a well-established ophthalmic practice in Townsville, North Queensland. Working in our practice, our patients are offered a full range of ophthalmic services, including cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, diabetic eye screening treatment, macular degeneration treatment, oculoplastic surgery, corneal surgery and more.

We are seeking a friendly, motivated and quick learning Registered/Enrolled Nurse with current registration with AHPRA to join our team in a permanent part-time to full-time capacity.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A positive and proactive attitude with a strong work ethic

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be highly organised and have a high level of attention to detail.

  • The ability to work as part of the practice team and autonomously

  • A high level of care that is patient focused and the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Reliable, efficient and able to work under pressure with a demonstrated capacity to multitask and manage competing demands.

  • Flexibility with start and finish times

  • A willingness to learn.  Experience working in an ophthalmic practice will be an advantage but not essential as you will be working with an experienced clinical team who will provide the appropriate training.

  • Sound judgement, combined with a calm, mature and professional attitude will be highly regarded.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To set up and assist the Ophthalmologist in all aspects of patient care to enable efficient and effective patient management

  • Conduct ophthalmic patient workups including screening of visual acuity, dilation, intraocular pressure tests, and medical history

  • Screening tests including visual fields, OCT, tonometer, topography, and biometry

  • Preparation, cleaning and maintenance of instruments and equipment.

  • Preparation of local anaesthetic and other drugs.

  • Assisting the Ophthalmologist with minor procedures

  • Sterilising of medical instruments

  • Maintaining medical stock supplies

  • Maintaining emergency equipment and drugs.

  • Support Administration staff as required
