Based in our Mackay office and reporting to the National Sales Manager, this role supports the estimating and sales function across fabrication and piping projects.

This is more than a traditional estimating role. You will play a key role in developing engineered solutions to client problems, working closely with the field sales team to improve equipment life and reduce wear in demanding applications.

You will combine technical understanding, commercial awareness, and practical problem-solving to design fit-for-purpose, bespoke solutions that deliver measurable value to our customers.

This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can take ownership, contribute ideas, and actively shape how we respond to client challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review tender documentation to determine scope, risks, and commercial conditions

  • Perform quantity take-offs from engineering drawings and technical documentation

  • Prepare accurate, commercially sound estimates and quotations

  • Support tender and proposal preparation from initial enquiry through to submission

  • Develop detailed scopes of work from client, consultant, and subcontractor packages

Solution Development & Sales Support

  • Work closely with field sales teams to proactively identify opportunities for improvement at client sites

  • Contribute to the development of engineered wear solutions aimed at improving equipment life and reducing maintenance

  • Apply practical and technical thinking to solve client problems, not just price what is asked

  • Assist in translating client requirements and site conditions into fit-for-purpose design and scope solutions

Commercial & Coordination

  • Source, issue, and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers

  • Negotiate and recommend supplier and subcontractor selections

  • Coordinate documentation between clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal teams

  • Provide reporting and updates to the management team

This role is well suited to someone with a mechanical or trade background looking to develop into a technical sales or applications-focused position.

What You'll Bring
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in estimating, engineering support, or a related technical role

  • Experience in steel fabrication, piping, or heavy industry environments (highly regarded)

  • Minimum 2 years' direct experience in steel fabrication or piping environments

  • Must hold current Australian work authorisation rights

Technical & Problem-Solving Capability

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate them into practical, fit-for-purpose solutions

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an interest in how equipment performs in real operating conditions

  • Proven ability to think beyond the brief and identify opportunities to improve performance, reduce wear, and extend equipment life

Commercial & Solution Focus

  • Solid understanding of first principles estimating and commercial drivers

  • Ability to balance technical requirements with commercial outcomes

  • A proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge scope, ask questions, and develop better solutions for the client

Working Style & Collaboration

  • Ability to work closely with field sales teams to develop and refine solutions based on site conditions and client needs

  • Strong attention to detail and ownership of outcomes

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timeframes

  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal

Systems & Tools

  • Proficiency across Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience using estimating or ERP systems (preferred but not essential)

Desirable
  • Mechanical trade background, engineering qualification, or relevant technical experience

  • Exposure to wear solutions, materials handling, or maintenance environments

  • Site experience or familiarity with mining or heavy industry operations

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary package based on experience

  • 9-day fortnight

  • Opportunity to take ownership of the role and influence how estimating is delivered

  • Work within a technically strong team supporting complex fabrication and piping projects
