The General Freight Driver / Yard Hand is responsible for the safe and efficient collection, transportation, delivery, loading, unloading, and handling of freight while supporting depot operations through general yard duties. This role contributes to maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-organised working environment while delivering high levels of customer service.

This is a hands-on, varied role that would suit someone who enjoys staying active, taking ownership of their work, and contributing across multiple areas of the operation. No two days are the same, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a productive environment and enjoys a mix of driving, freight handling, and yard-based responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Duties

  • Conduct local and regional freight pickups and deliveries in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Complete pre-start, post-trip, and defect inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure freight is loaded, restrained, transported, and delivered safely and in accordance with legislative and company requirements.
  • Accurately complete delivery documentation, manifests, proof of delivery records, and any required transport paperwork.
  • Use electronic devices and transport management systems to record deliveries, pickups, and freight movements.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, dispatch, and depot personnel regarding freight status and delivery schedules.
  • Adhere to all Chain of Responsibility (CoR), NHVR, road transport, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers and stakeholders.
  • Report vehicle defects, incidents, damages, hazards, and delays promptly.

Yard Hand Duties

  • Assist with loading, unloading, sorting, and staging freight within the depot.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other authorised equipment where licensed and trained.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard and warehouse environment.
  • Assist with freight inspections and checks for damage or discrepancies.
  • Support vehicle washing, basic housekeeping, and depot presentation standards.
  • Assist with stock and equipment movements throughout the depot.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, maintenance issues, and damaged equipment.
  • Support operational requirements and other reasonable duties as directed by management.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Australian Driver Licence (MR/HR preferred).
  • Ability to perform manual handling and physical labour tasks.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current Forklift Licence (LF) (Desirable)
  • Previous experience in the transport, freight, logistics, or warehousing industry (Desirable)
