Shipyard Manager – Mackay

Lead a Well-Established Marine Maintenance Business

Pacific Marine Group (PMG) is seeking an experienced and motivated Shipyard Manager to lead our Mackay Shipyard facility.

Servicing the Mackay and Whitsunday region for more than 20 years, the Mackay Shipyard provides vessel maintenance, repair and survey support services including abrasive blasting and protective coatings, welding and fabrication, mechanical maintenance and associated marine services.

Operating as part of the wider Pacific Marine Group, the facility accommodates vessels up to 600T, 50 m in length and typically up to an 18m beam, supporting both PMG's internal fleet and a diverse external client base.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on operational leader to take ownership of a well-established business, drive continuous improvement, build strong client relationships and contribute to the future growth of the shipyard.

About the Role

Reporting within the Pacific Marine Group leadership structure, you will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Mackay Shipyard.

Leading a team of tradespeople, labourers and contractors, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard while maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and stakeholders. This is a great opportunity to lead and manage a small team while working in a varied and interesting environment.

We are seeking an experienced leader who can successfully balance operational delivery, people leadership and client engagement. Stepping into an environment where quality and relationships are critical to our success, the successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • An awareness of, or previous experience in, a marine or shipyard environment including engineering, structure/repairs, abrasive blasting and protective coatings;
  • Marine engineering certificate or equivalent experience with vessel maintenance;
  • Experience supervising a varied team of tradesmen, labourers & contractors;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and staff.
  • Focus on completing work to a high standard, in a safe and timely manner.

While this is primarily a leadership role, the successful candidate will enjoy being involved in the operation and be willing to adopt a hands-on approach when required.

This position is based in Mackay, Queensland.

Applicants must have full Australian working rights and may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical and police check.
