About the role

DRILLPRO SERVICES PTY LTD is seeking a dedicated and experienced WHS Advisor to join our team in Mackay, Queensland. This is a full-time position that plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and compliance of our operations within the mining, resources and energy sector. As WHS Advisor, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programmes that protect our workforce and support our operational excellence. This role is based in Mackay, QLD 4740, and is integral to our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety and compliance stewardship. The role requires ad hoc travel to operational sites to support site teams with incident investigations, incident management activities, and the completion of safety and compliance inspections.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety and environmental (WHS/HSE) policies, procedures, and programmes aligned with relevant legislation and industry best practice

2. Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate control measures

3. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions

4. Provide WHS training and inductions to employees, contractors, and site visitors to ensure awareness and compliance with safety requirements

5. Monitor and maintain compliance with relevant legislative requirements, including work health and safety regulations, and industry-specific regulations

6. Collaborate with operational teams to develop and implement safe work method statements (SWMS)

7. Maintain WHS records, documentation, and reporting systems, including incident reports, audits, and regulatory submissions

8. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to verify ongoing compliance and the effectiveness of control measures

9. Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement, toolbox talks, and safety awareness initiatives

What we're looking for

1. Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline, with a minimum of Diploma or equivalent

2. Current WHS certifications such as GDIP in WHS, Cert IV in WHS, or similar recognised qualifications

3. Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a WHS Advisor, WHS Officer, or similar role, preferably within the mining, resources, or energy sectors

4. Demonstrated knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and relevant state-based regulations

5. Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measure implementation using recognised frameworks

6. Experience with incident investigation methodologies and root cause analysis techniques

7. Proficiency in developing and delivering WHS training and induction programmes

8. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels, from frontline workers to senior management

9. Strong organisational and documentation skills with the ability to maintain comprehensive WHS records and reporting systems

10. Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams

11. Computer literacy and experience with WHS management systems and incident reporting software

12. Physical capability to conduct workplace inspections and site assessments in the mining and resources environment
