$73,135 - $74,437 per annum

 

The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville. Your Opportunity

Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Open Spaces and Cemeteries Leading Hand to coordinate and deliver high-quality construction, establishment, and maintenance works across Council’s parks and gardens within the Whitsunday region.

This hands-on role provides leadership to field staff while ensuring Council’s parks, open spaces, and cemetery areas are maintained to a high standard, in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and direction to employees undertaking parks and gardens construction and maintenance activities.
  2. Support the Coordinator Parks and Gardens in planning minor works and identifying future maintenance requirements.
  3. Implement Parks and Gardens Asset Management and Maintenance Plans.
  4. Plan, direct, and supervise daily operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  5. Ensure Council plant, vehicles, and equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with the Queensland Traffic Act and Council policy.

About you:

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in parks and gardens, landscaping, horticulture, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to lead and support a small team in a hands-on environment.
  • Experience operating plant and equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of traffic management requirements and workplace safety standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential

  1. MR Class Manual Drivers Licence (or willing to obtain)
  2. Construction Safety Induction (White Card)
  3. Certificate Chainsaw Operations and Operate Pole Saw (or willing to obtain)
  4. Provide Advanced First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain)
  5. Traffic Management Implementation (or willing to obtain)
  6. Commercial Operator’s Licence for the application of herbicides (ACDC) (or willing to obtain)
  7. Playground inspection qualification Level 1 and 2 (or willing to obtain)
  8. Childrens Blue card (ability to obtain)
  9. Relevant licences, tickets, and qualifications (or willingness to obtain).

 

Desirable

  • Certificate II or III in Horticulture
