About the role

Reels Manufacturing Group Pty Limited is seeking an experienced Fitter Machinist to join our team at our Townsville facility. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work with precision engineering and manufacturing processes in a dynamic industrial environment. Based in Townsville, QLD 4810, this role is essential to maintaining and enhancing our manufacturing capabilities and product quality standards.

What you'll be doing

As a Fitter Machinist, you will be responsible for a variety of technical tasks that support our manufacturing operations. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Operating and maintaining CNC and conventional machine tools to precise specifications

  2. Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints and work specifications

  3. Performing fitting, assembly and machining operations on components and finished products

  4. Conducting quality checks and inspections to ensure products meet required standards and tolerances

  5. Troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing preventative and corrective maintenance on machinery

  6. Preparing work areas and tools required for various machining and fitting tasks

  7. Collaborating with team members to ensure efficient production schedules are met

  8. Adhering to workplace health and safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organised work environment


What we're looking for

To succeed in this Fitter Machinist position, you should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  1. A recognised trade qualification in fitter machining, mechanical engineering or related discipline

  2. Proven experience working with both CNC and conventional machine tools

  3. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fitter machining or related field

  4. Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  5. Proficiency in precision measurement and quality control practices

  6. Knowledge of metal fabrication processes and material properties

  7. Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail

  8. Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team

  9. A commitment to workplace health and safety standards

  10. Physical fitness to perform manual tasks and lift heavy items regularly

  11. Must be an Australian permanent resident with full work rights


Preferred experience may include familiarity with the manufacturing or engineering sector, experience with hydraulic or pneumatic systems, or advanced skills in CAD software or precision tooling.
